Part of living is growing
However, just like with anything this needs some harnessing in as well.
When I was 21, I started a podcast. Because I wanted to seek discomfort. I was excited to challenge myself and add a bit of novelty to my days. I was excited to grow.
They don't tell you much about growth these days. Mostly because everyone wants to be comfortable, so it’s not thought of much. I used to believe that there was no downside to growth but my podcast changed my mind.
Within a few months, the podcast became more of a chore because I was not getting the results I wanted. The downloads weren't in the range I wanted it to be, nor was the reach. Don't get me wrong, I did overcome my fear of putting myself out in public but I would be lying if I said the motivation to record new episodes is still there.
And I suspect the main reason is I was so focused on growing that I didn't really give myself credit for even starting in the first place. For actually overcoming the fear. I mean, how many people would do that?
So here's what they don't tell you about growing;
Growing is good.
But being present is even better
Always give yourself the benefit of the doubt, always think what you've done is 10x better than what you think you should be doing.
Focus on just doing and not trying to grow
Growth is natural, it doesn't have prerequisites. So you don't really need metrics like downloads to decide if you've done enough
Success is subjective, don't forget. It's your subject.
